Silencer

The silencer is just what it sounds like.  It helps suppress the sound and muzzle flash of a weapon.  It is attached to the end of the weapon, usually screwed onto the barrel of weapons that can use it.

Pros:

  • Muffles the sound of the gun firing: This can make it slightly more difficult to locate where the firing is coming from. It is also easier on the ears when listening at loud volumes. (just my opinion here)
  • Helps suppress muzzle flash: This can make it slightly more difficult to locate the direction a shot came from. It is also easier on the eyes for prolonged games. (just my opinion here) Here is a picture of an LR300 without a silencer you can notice the muzzle flash here... it does have an effect on visibility.

Muzzle Flash

Cons:

  • Visibly extends the end of your gun.  If you are trying to hide behind a short corner... it can be a dead giveaway that you are there.  It also has a tenancy to clip through thin walls also showing your location.
  • Takes up an item slot.  It can't be helped you can only carry so much equipment.

Effects:

There is an on going debate as to weather or not a silencer helps or hurts the accuracy of the weapon.  The programmers claim there is absolutely no difference to accuracy, many players report differences in the weapon's feel.  I leave it up to the player to decide. As far as I am concerned the average player, should not have a noticeable difference in accuracy with the silencer on or off.

Toggles:

This item can be disabled with the use item command.  (Scroll through your items and select the silencer, and it will enable or disable its usage.)

Dropping:

This Item can be dropped with the ut_itemdrop command. This can be bound to any key selected by the player.
