Scopes

Gear Guide

Scopes allow a user to zoom in on a target for fine grain accuracy. Different scopes allow different levels of zoom.  The g36 only has a single zoom level.  The SR-8 and PSG-1 offer a 3x zoom capacity.  The SR-8 scope offeres the furthest visible range.  When the sniper riffles are "zoomed out" commonly called  "No Scoped" the bullet tragectory is random, I'm sure this was done to prevent abuse of the sinper riffles.  The g36 is an oddity in that it is a machine gun that has zoom.

Pros:

  • Increase accuracy: Using a scope on the SR-8 or PSG is the only way to get an accurate shot.  On the G36 it does not improve the accuracy of the weapon only the view of the user.

Cons:

  • It limits feild of vison: While zoomed in you can only see what the FOV (field of vison) is for the scope. Making a very large blind area around your character. (I there are a lot of people I have walked up to and stabbed while they were "scopped" in on something else... just cause they couldn't see me.)

Weapons that have a scope equpied:

Effects:

Zooms in the field of vision and allows for fine grain control over target selection.

Toggles:

This item us toggled using the "ut_zoomin", "ut_zoomout", and "ut_zoomreset" commands.  These commands can be bound to any key selected by the player.

Dropping:

The scopes cannot be dropped as they are part of the selected weapons.

Settings:

This is a list of settings that can affect your zoom:

Weapon Crosshair Selection Color Allied color
G36 cg_scopeg36 [0-3]  cg_scopeRGB # # # # cg_scopefriendrgb # # # #
PSG cg_scopePSG [0-3]  cg_scopeRGB # # # # cg_scopefriendrgb # # # #
SR-8 cg_scopesr8 [0-3]  cg_scopeRGB # # # # cg_scopefriendrgb # # # #

Scope and Options:

There are 4 avaliable scope options for the scopes

cg_scopeg36 0

Option 0 - Cross

cg_scopeg36 1

Option 1 - Cross 2

cg_scopeg36 3

Option 2 - TShaped

cg_scopeg36 4

Option 4 - Dot

  • 0=Cross
  • 1=Cross2
  • 2=T-Shape
  • 3=Dot

Other settings that affect the scope:

  • cg_scopering [0-2] this shows the accuracy ring around your cross hair in scoped mode.
  • cg_zoomfov [22.5-??] this is your field of vision when scoped.

Advice:

  • Stay scoped in only as long as you need to.  Don't just stand there waiting for someone to come into view, it is a great way to get sliced or shot.
  • Use SOUND to your advantage.  When  scoped in listen for things around you it can keep you alive much longer.
  • Try to be as stationary as possible when scoped in, even if you just neil down for a split second to get off your shot, it will help with accuracy.  Movement penalties on scopes are high.
  • Trying to get a "no scope" shot on the SR-8 or PSG is like a shot at the roulet table it is purely random. In most cases it is more effective to switch or drop your weapon and shoot with your secondary or pistol in a hurry.
  • Camping in one spot is fun at times, but it is a great way to get killed a lot.  Once people know you are there... move.
