Night Vision Goggles

Pictures:

Night Vision Goggles enhance your view of the battle field. They are some times referred to as tac goggles. They illuminate enemy positions and allow you to see through some objects.
Pros:
- Hylites enemy locations: You can clearly see your enemies even when cleverly hidden.
- Allows visibility through some objects: You can see through some objects (not all) in the game that obscure or hide your enemies.
- Allows visibility even through smoke. Yep you can throw a smoke nade and still see your enemies. (Just not the walls very well.)
Cons:
- It limits field of vision: It is like being scoped in at all times. It does limit your field of vision, and it also runs through a color filter so it makes it difficult to distinguish who is friend or foe quickly.
- Takes up an available Item slot: There is only so much stuff you can carry.
Effects:
This item basically helps you to see under circumstances that would be difficult or impossible without. This is great for games where people are throwing lots of smoke grenades, or visibility is very low.
Toggles:
This item can be turned on and off by selecting the item (ut_itemprev, ut_itemnext) and pressing the use key. (ut_itemuse) These commands can be bound to any keys the user wishes. This item is ON by default when equipped.
Dropping:
This item can be dropped with the command "ut_itemdrop". This is a "sneaky" think you can do to newer players, and if you are a new player here is something to look out for. Equip the NVG's and then run to an area where your enemies like to congregate... and drop them. Many new players and some old have no idea how to turn them off or drop them... it limit their field of vision and usually distracts them for quite a bit trying to find the keys to turn off or drop. If you are a new player... look out for this it only works once or twice before people pick up on it. But can be quite amusing to do.
Settings:
The only settings for the NVG's is the back ground color. To change it use the "cg_nvg [0-7]" command.
|
cg_nvg 0 - GREEN |
|
cg_nvg 1 - RED |
|
cg_nvg 2 - BLUE |
|
cg_nvg 3 - YELLOW |
|
cg_nvg 4 - CYAN |
|
cg_nvg 5 - MAGENTA (or PURPLE) |
|
cg_nvg 6 - PINK |
|
cg_nvg 7 ORANGE |
I find different colors work better on different maps although my default color of choice is yellow, you can scroll through them and select for your self.
Advice:
- Only use them when necessary, don't keep them on at all times, you loose too much visibility.
- Use sound to your advantage when you have them on Listen for enemies and hazards near by.
- Learn to distinguish between friend or foe before you pull the trigger.
