Urban Terror 4.1

Ultimate Guide to Configuration and Scripting

Round 2: Gear and Equipment

Table of Contents:

This is a guide explaining how to make pre-built weapon and gear combinations for the FPS (First person Shooter) video game Urban Terror. Many players chose to do this because they find common weapon and equipment combinations that they use and prefer in games of various types.  Making pre-built combinations does not limit you from selecting other weapons from the GUI (graphic user interface) or command line, it simply makes weapon selection faster if you know what you want and pre-make the gear sets.

The Gear and their codes

One of the things that this game makes more realistic than many other First Person Shooters out there, is there is a limit as to how much your character can carry in terms of weapons, equipment and ammo.  This has a direct relationship to the stamina of the character as well.  So here is the list of weapons and equipment available to you in the game (and the codes that represent them):

The Gear "Variable"

To change your gear through the console (or config file) here is the command and syntax: (don't forget the leading "/" if in console mode)

set gear 1234567

Where 1 = Side Arm selection code, 2 = Primary Weapon Code, 3 = Secondary Weapon Code, 4 = Grenade code, 5 = First Item Code, 6 = Second Item Code, and 7 = The Third Item Code.

So for example if I wanted the Beretta, LR300ML, MP5K, HE Nades, and a Laser Pointer here is what I would type:

set gear FLJOVAAA

Note the A's at the end.  Every slot must have some code in it.  If there is nothing in that slot I use the code for nothing "A".

Another example is a Negev, Desert Eagle, Silencer, Kevlar Vest, and a Kevlar Helmet:

set gear GcAAURW;

Pushing the Limits

The game places a real limit on what you can carry.  You can only carry 5 Items (weapons/gear/etc).  The Negev is an exception when carrying it you cannot have a secondary weapon (it must be code A). You can still carry 5 items just no secondary weapon..  Many people try to carry too much and the game does not like that.

Making pre-built weapon packages

Now that you can set your gear, you can make pre-built packages for use in game by using the bind command with it here is an example:

bind 7 "set gear FLJOVAAA"

Now every time you press "7" (in spawn of course) you are equipped with the LR300ML, MP5K, Beretta, HE Nades, and a Laser Pointer.  Then you could make a different package for sniping or being a medic.

Trouble Shooting

If you try setting your gear and it does not work, there are several possibilities. I will list with the most common but I cannot list all the possibilities.

  1. You are trying an invalid combination of codes or too much equipment.
  2. You have another bind interfering with your gear variable (in other words you might have bound your key to do something else instead)
  3. Your character is not in a time or place that allows you to select different weapons... (You cannot switch weapon packs after you start shooting.)
  4. The weapons you are selecting may be disabled by the server (The first time I saw this it was very confusing, I kept changing my equipment but could not get grenades of any kind... I found out they were disabled on the server I was on so there was nothing I could do to get them on the server.)

Multiple Weapon Gear Layouts

You can have many different types of gear layouts (even bound to the same key), I will explain more advanced settings in future chapters.  But this should give you the basics of what you need to make pre-defined gear kits.  I suggest you study some of the weapons here in my weapon guide and play quite a few games before you make your final weapon/gear kits.
